Claverdon Primary School

Admissions

Warwickshire County Council is the admissions authority for the School.  The standard admission number set by the Authority is 30 pupils per year group.  The School admits pupils primarily from its priority area, which is:

  • The parishes of Langley and Claverdon (excluding the hamlet of Gannaway) are included.

Holywell and Pinley Green in the parish of Rowington (the boundary cuts across the countryside from the northern most part of Claverdon parish, where it leaves the river, to the Shrewley parish boundary just south of Colley Irons Wood) and the area of Preston Bagot parish south of the canal are also included.

The area of Shrewley and Hatton parishes south of the railway line is shared with The Furncumbe C of E Primary School.

The village of Langley in the parish of Langley is shared with Wolverton Primary School.

A map of the priority area can be seen here: Claverdon School priority area map

Admissions criteria for our School, in order of priority are:

  1. Children living in the priority area who have a brother or sister at the school at the time of admission.
  2. Other children living in the priority area.
  3. Children from outside the priority area who have a brother or sister at the school at the time of admission.
  4. Other children from outside the priority area.

In all cases, decisions are based on the walking distance between home and school by the shortest walking route, with priority going to those living nearest the school.  This applies equally to those living inside and outside the Authority boundaries. WCC admissions officers will give consideration to all parents applying for admission against the published priorities.  In the event that the number of applicants exceeds the standard number, a waiting list will be maintained by L.A.

Warwickshire County Council’s policy is to admit on an annual basis pupils who are starting school at the beginning of the academic year.  Children who will reach their 5th birthday in the academic year between 1st September and the following 31st August may start school from 1st September.

Children of any age or ability who move into the area during the school year will be offered a place on the basis of availability.

Parents are required to complete the WCC application form as applications are processed centrally by L.A. for both starting in Reception and mid year transfers. Parents considering seeking admission for their child are welcome to visit and leave their details with the school office. We welcome prospective parents and invite them to visit the school.
